Walking with Purpose: Oni Foundation’s Historic Milestone at the 47th Annual Charity Walk

The spirit of Aloha was on full display on the morning of Saturday, May 9th, as the Maui community gathered for a monumental event. This year marked a historic milestone for the Oni Foundation as we proudly stepped out for our very first year participating in the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association’s (MHLA) 47th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk. Thanks to an outpouring of support from our dedicated community, our inaugural walk was an absolute triumph, demonstrating just how much we can achieve when we move forward together with a shared vision.

Nearly 30 enthusiastic walkers laced up their sneakers early Saturday morning to represent the Oni Foundation. The energy at the starting line was electric, filled with laughter, shared stories, and a profound commitment to our mission of preserving and celebrating cultural arts. Our walkers carried the spirit of our ancestors and the future of our youth with every step they took. This collective energy translated into an incredible fundraising achievement. Together, we raised a spectacular $9,033!

Because the Charity Walk functions as a collective powerhouse for local nonprofits, the Oni Foundation will also be receiving additional matching funding from the MHLA’s general funds this coming August. This financial boost will amplify our capacity to develop impactful cultural programming, expand our reach, and strengthen our foundational roots.

These vital funds will directly support our community programs, ensuring that traditional dance, music, and crafts remain accessible to both residents and visitors on Maui. But the good news does not stop there.

We want to express our most sincere, deepest Aloha to every single person who contributed to this success. Whether you walked the miles with us, reached into your pockets to sponsor a participant, or cheered us on from afar, your contribution matters. It is through your generosity that we are able to keep the pulse of our diverse cultural traditions beating strongly. Thank you for walking by our side and investing in the cultural tapestry of our islands. We are already looking forward to making next year's walk even bigger!
